Fungal Acne Safe Skincare
Moisturisers, cleansers, serums and sunscreens with none of the ingredients fungal-acne guides usually avoid.
Why some people avoid fungal-acne triggers
Fungal acne (Malassezia folliculitis) is not true acne. It is caused by a yeast that lives on everyone's skin and feeds on certain oils and fatty acids, and shows up as small, itchy, same-sized bumps, usually on the chest and upper back and sometimes the forehead. Usual acne treatments do little for it.
Fungal-acne guides usually avoid plant oils and butters, fatty acids, fatty-acid esters, polysorbates and ferments. The evidence behind each rule is limited, so it is worth asking a GP or dermatologist to confirm it really is fungal acne before you overhaul your routine.
How we check
We run every ingredient through the same rules as our fungal acne checker, and leave out products with more than three ingredient names we do not recognise, since those cannot be fully checked. We go only by the ingredient list, so we leave out lists that look cut short. Of the 860 products we have full lists for, 107 qualify.
